[Accidental Video]

[Here's a really dark forest-y feed for your viewing pleasure. It's Ilex Forest so of course it's dark and it's night so that doesn't make it any better. There's a view of a guy dressed in green-yellow shirt, walking around... looking pretty lost, even if he has a map on his hands.]

This map doesn't show me anything right... [The feed goes on as he walks and walks. It seems like someone is following him with the gear.]

Really... if I wasn't sure this was the right map I'd say this is-- [He looks at the label, now.] ... oh. Well, good thing I'm pretty sure this is the right way... right Vulpix?

[Theres's a really, really unsure "Vul" coming from the Pokémon.]

... wait. Isn't that the landmark I put around an hour ago? Don't tell me we've traveled in a circle. [A long sigh. The Vulpix nudges his owner.] Yeah, I know... I should ask for help. Now where's my gear...?

[He looks around his backpack. Nope. Not there. Vulpix nudges his trainer again and that's when Shiraishi looks straight at the gear.]

Hey...!

[Wild Chikorita ran away with the gear (because it got scared) and Shiraishi after them. In the middle of the chase the feed is cut off.]

[Video]

[And the feed opens to an exhausted Shiraishi once he gets his gear back. He's been running after it for... who knows how long. And gotten even more lost.]

I... think I'm in a pinch here. I've been looking for the exit at Ilex Forest to Azalea Town for hours. I just got here for a evening stroll and then couldn't find a way out.

[His Vulpix is curled up next to him, sleeping.] And I have the wrong map, too... so I have no idea where to go.

So uh... what should I do?

How can you get lost in here that fast? This isn't that complicated of a forest.

[The voice is that of a young male, possibly in his early teens. Where its owner is, on the other hand, is a different matter, considering how dark it is.]

If you get lost this easily you shouldn't come in here.

[He sounds a bit bewildered by your apparent incompetence. Then again, this is coming from someone who's lived their entire life in a forest, so his standards for wilderness navigation might be a little high.]

[Wh-What there's someone else here? That startled Shiraishi slightly.]

I'm not that used to traveling in forests... I didn't meant to wander this far. [Or well, at all. Just take a peek of the forest and go out.]

[The voice is behind him and to his left now. There was no sound of its owner moving there.]

Why don't you just follow the trail of footprints and broken twigs you've left behind you? That will get you out.

Uh...

[... okay. This is kind of scary. Shiraishi tries to stay calm about this though.]

I didn't think of that. I guess I could try that and get to the shrine.

[Be glad Apollo isn't trying to scare you...]

You're trying to get to Azalea Town, right? The shrine's in the other direction.

[Apollo drops to the ground in a crouch right in front of him. Bare feet with bandages around the arch and ankles, a sleeveless green shirt tucked into loose green pants tied with a green cloth belt, a blue and black courier bag, a feathered armband, red wrist wraps, and a green cloak that billows in the air as he descends, covering his entire body once he lands other than for a feathered amulet and his head. A Sentret and a larger-than-average Spearow drop onto his shoulders and a Deerling pokes its head out from the bushes.]

Azalea Town's that way. [He points in what probably looks to Shiraishi like a random direction into the forest.]

[The first thought's "does he live in this forest"... but he won't comment on that since he seems like he really wants to help him.]

Ah... I was just advised that I should first find it and then head south-west from there, but if there's a faster route... [He'll look at the direction. Has he been there before? Maybe. It looks all same to him right now.] Just straight to that direction...?

[Apollo would like to live in this forest, but there're no caves or other places to shelter here. And he just doesn't want Shiraishi to stumble in the dark and break a bunch of branches or land on a sleeping Pokémon and hurt it or something. He'd leave Shiraishi here if that wasn't the case.]

Yeah. [Then he remembers the post he heard a little while ago. Did this guy seriously manage to walk in circles and not know it? Some of the poachers had been pretty bad at moving around in the forest but this was a whole new level of failure (Or rather, the poachers had been fairly good by most peoples' standards and this was the first time Apollo was encountering someone closer to average in that department.) He turns his back on Shiraishi and starts walking in the direction he had pointed in.] This way.

[Trust me in saying that Shiraishi would definitely hate himself if he stumbled on any sleeping Pokémon. He had been really careful because of that. He does like the nature even if he gets lost in it easily.

Though he will follow the guy cause he does want to get back to town for now.]

You're showing me the way out? Thank you.

I don't want you to end up hurting anyone in the dark.

[Yeah, he said it.

Apollo's slipping through openings in the foliage that Shiraishi probably wouldn't have noticed and would've had to have gone around instead. There is of course a downside in that any exposed skin between the neck and the ankles is likely going to get scratched up by rubbing against twigs, small thorns, and branches. Apollo's immune to that damage because of his cloak covering everything, but Shiraishi will probably not be as lucky, unless he's in long pants, long sleeves, and gloves.

One more thing that Shiraishi may not notice for a while, if at all: despite the overgrowth and good pace that Apollo's leading at, he's not making any noise. There're no sounds of twigs snapping underfoot or branches moving back into place as he passes. If Shiraishi were to listen very closely he would faintly hear Apollo's breathing and the occasional sound of a leaf getting caught on his cloak, but other than that Apollo's silent as he moves. Of course, Shiraishi is making more than enough noise for both of them, so Apollo's silence is hard to notice.]

[Shiraishi looks slightly embarrassed... though of course that might be left unnoticed.] I've been careful... I wouldn't want to cause any more damage than I already do.

[And thankfully he at least has long sleeves and pants... but no luck with gloves, safe for the bandage on his left hand. It's a hard journey and he's wincing on the way... but somehow he trusts this is a good way to go. The guy seems to know where he's going.

He'd be even more impressed if he'd hear the silence he makes... but well, too much noise in the way.]

[Apollo isn't even looking at him, so he doesn't notice.] Good. I hate humans who are careless or mean and hurt everyone in the forests.

[Remember all those twisty paths in the forest? Apollo's just bypassing them all in favor of a more direct route. He spent a couple weeks in here just exploring a while ago, so he knows the area well enough to get around.]

I do too. Which is why I... will have to travel with others who know how if I want to get through here to Goldenrod later.

[Good thing he isn't traveling alone all the time.

It's amazing what sort of routes you can find though. It's a little hard, but a much faster way to get by... not something that would cross his mind.]

Goldenrod? It's too loud and it stinks. Why would you want to go to a place like that?

[He'll never be able to find any of these paths again without Apollo.]

It's part of the journey we're in. One stop on the way.

It's too bad there isn't a way around it. I didn't want to have to go through it again if I could help it.

You prefer towns more like Azalea, then?

I like being in the forest better.

Well ... I guess you could get used to it. [Probably not if you've lived your whole life in a city.] But wouldn't you get lonely without anyone around?

[Apollo finally glances over his shoulder at Shiraishi, obviously confused by that question.]

What do you mean? There are lots of people around.

Mostly just passing by to get to other places.

There are lots of them living here. I'm just avoiding them so we won't have to fight them.

[... oh.]

I guess I didn't see any of them, then...

[The Spearow and the Sentret on his shoulder both perk up suddenly, and Spearow takes off into the forest. Apollo glances after him but continues walking.]

There are enough of them I can't avoid them all though. Spearow goes after them if he notices them. Hopefully that Oddish he's after won't poison him before he beats it.

[Look at the Spearow go... and almost hit a branch, but luckily he's able to avoid it.]

At least there's berries and medicine if the Spearow does get poisoned.

[Of course! He has Keen Eye. He can't lose accuracy in the dark.]

Yeah, I keep some of them in my bag all the time.
